Has anyone read the book

Wild at Heart: Discovering the Secret of a Man's Soul by John Eldredge

If so, is it worth a read?

I haven't read it, and don't think I would, based on what I gleaned from the Amazon.com website:

Book Description
God designed men to be dangerous, says John Eldredge. Simply look at the dreams and desires written in the heart of every boy: To be a hero, to be a warrior, to live a life of adventure and risk. Sadly, most men abandon those dreams and desires-aided by a Christianity that feels like nothing more than pressure to be a "nice guy." It is no wonder that many men avoid church, and those who go are often passive and bored to death. In this provocative book, Eldredge gives women a look inside the true heart of a man and gives men permission to be what God designed them to be-dangerous, passionate, alive, and free.

Setting aside the questions of God "designing" men, and the Christian slant on the book, I do think it gets at a critical question about men's relationship with a spiritual/religious community, and their sense of what it means to be a man. I think it's interesting how the author seems to relegate heroism, risk, and adventure to the physical realm. I'd suggest that the most significant risks and adventures are taken/found in real relationship with others; in doing battle with questions, in wrestling with your relationship to something larger than yourself, and in shared service of the greater good. Making connections with others and the world around me is what makes me feel most alive (though paragliding is right up there!).
